Telecom Fuels Customer Growth for Greenplum

These leading telecom companies are now using Greenplum Database to power a range of applications, from security compliance and customer acquisition to call detail record analysis.

Greenplum, a provider of database software for business intelligence, recently announced that it has signed a number of new telecommunications customers in Asia in the first half of 2008, including Thailand’s AIS, OnMobile in India and Telecom Malaysia. These leading telecom companies are now using Greenplum Database to power a range of applications, from security compliance and customer acquisition to call detail record analysis. Greenplum Database is the world’s fastest, most cost-effective database solution for analyzing the massive amounts of information generated by surging worldwide usage of wireless and broadband services.

AIS, a telecommunications provider in Thailand with 21 million subscribers, chose Greenplum and Sun Microsystems for its data mart consolidation platform, initially purchasing 12 terabytes of capacity with plans to grow this in the coming year. Greenplum worked with partner Ferntree Asia Pacific, a business intelligence and data warehousing services company with offices in Australia, India, the Philippines and Singapore, to provide services for AIS and other customers in the region.

“When AIS evaluated alternatives for consolidation, Greenplum was the only solution which met their stringent requirements for performance and also met their budget expectations,” said Nat Iyer, CEO of Ferntree Asia Pacific. “As data requirements continue to grow for Asian businesses, we are seeing tremendous interest in the Greenplum Database.”
