With DecisionIris, key decision makers are armed with the information necessary to make educated, strategic decisions in a timely manner.

Visual i|o, a developer of software for better business decisions through interactive visual analysis, recently announced the availability of DecisionIris for Project Portfolio Analysis in the pharmaceutical industry. Developed as a result of the company’s work with five of the top 15 pharmaceutical companies, DecisionIris addresses three areas in R&D management: strategic portfolio management; cross-project resource management; and project tracking and analysis. The views combine relevant data from many sources, and allow users to see both high level roll-ups and granular level detail within the same application. With DecisionIris, key decision makers are armed with the information necessary to make educated, strategic decisions in a timely manner. Visual i|o plans to roll out customized solutions for additional markets in the future.

Unlike its competitors, Visual i|o’s DecisionIris for Project Portfolio Analysis is not a do-it-yourself toolkit that requires creating your own visualizations at your desktop. DecisionIris is an enterprise solution, designed to bring disparate corporate data together, and it is deployed directly to the business user. For the first time, with this release, everyday business users who make decisions about the management of drug development projects have a “lens” that lets them see the data across multiple projects with each person viewing the data in the same manner.

DecisionIris generates a “mash-up” of business intelligence data from various sources to align the data and present it visually for more effective decision making. By manipulating a number of variables – such as time, expenditure, risk and value – portfolio managers can see at a glance how the company’s investment is aligned with the portfolio and quickly gauge each project’s value and risk relative to other projects. Previously, decision makers had to request and rely on a multitude of individual static reports, all of which may present the data in a different manner, or resort to oversimplified dashboards in order to assimilate the needed information to make decisions.

“DecisionIris for Project Portfolio Analysis is uniquely designed to become a lens through which all of the corporate data can be seen, allowing ordinary business users to find patterns, distributions, correlations, and anomalies across multiple data types, with each person looking at the same data in the same manner,” stated Angela Shen-Hsieh, President and CEO of Visual i|o. “By leveraging the new technologies available with the advent of Web 2.0, we are able to ‘mash-up’ applications from various sources to present information in compelling new ways to facilitate effective and timely decision making.”
