Children's Hospital Boston Selects BusinessObjects XI

Originally published November 16, 2005

Business Objects, a provider of business intelligence solutions, recently announced that Children's Hospital Boston, a pediatric medical center in the U.S. and the primary pediatric teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, has chosen BusinessObjects XI to support its operational BI needs. Children's Hospital Boston plans to deploy BusinessObjects XI across the hospital, to researchers, doctors, and administrators to improve operational efficiency.

Children's Hospital Boston selected BusinessObjects XI, citing reliability and performance of the product, as well as easier support and control of the data, as their primary selection drivers.

Children's Hospital Boston records more than 21,000 inpatient admissions each year, and its more than 100 outpatient clinics and Emergency Services care for almost 450,000 patients annually. As the primary pediatric teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, researchers spend numerous hours searching for the perfect patient candidates for various health-related studies. In phase one of the deployment, clinical researchers will use BusinessObjects Set Analysis, part of BusinessObjects XI, to do set-based analysis of patient data to assist in identifying potential candidates for research studies.

In phase two of the project, the hospital will roll-out BusinessObjects Dashboard Manager XI and BusinessObjects Performance Manager XI to give emergency room physicians or nursing managers access to information via a dashboard to help evaluate patient flow efficiency and to predict resource needs.

"It is critical in our business that we meet certain business performance measures," said Ronald Wilkinson, Manager of Business Intelligence at Children's Hospital Boston. "For instance, insurance companies will give us a better rate if we can provide information that our center meets quality and patient safety targets around clinical issues. This is why dashboards that can target that information and tell us how we're doing will be important to our overall success."
