Texas Southern University to use MicroStrategy BI Software in Graduate Program

Originally published February 24, 2010

MicroStrategy Incorporated a leading worldwide provider of business intelligence (BI) software, recently announced that it will provide Texas Southern University with free business intelligence software licenses as an educational resource. MicroStrategy offers free software for teaching to many universities as part of its commitment to developing the BI skills of the next generation of leaders.

Texas Southern University will use MicroStrategy in the Jesse H. Jones School of Business in the MBA and the EMBA programs. MicroStrategy will be used to show students how business intelligence reports and dashboards can support decision making, create an information democracy, support transparency, and track enterprise performance against strategic objectives. MIS students will develop business intelligence solutions for real-world problems identified by the school's business partners, including Shell, Citgo, and City of Houston.

"After comparing MicroStrategy to other BI products, we found MicroStrategy offered far better reporting capabilities and more flexibility in allowing the students to experiment with analytical concepts," said Karma Sherif, Director of MIS Program, Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern University. "Incorporating MicroStrategy into the graduate program will better prepare students for the job market, as there is a significant emphasis within the industry on business analytics and reporting."

"MicroStrategy is firmly committed to training students in business intelligence, and we are pleased that Texas Southern University will be using our software in their graduate program," said MicroStrategy's COO Sanju Bansal.  "With MicroStrategy, universities can teach students about BI in a tangible way, providing hands-on experience that students can take directly into the workplace."
