Forrester Research Recognizes Tibco Spotfire as a Strong Performer in Predictive Analytics and Data Mining Solutions

Originally published February 8, 2010

TIBCO Software Inc. recently announced that Forrester Research, Inc. has recognized the TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Platform as a strong performer in predictive analytics (PA) and data mining (DM) solutions, according to the February 2010 Forrester Wave: Predictive Analytics And Data Mining Solutions, Q1 2010. Forrester cited TIBCO as a strong performer based on the company’s market presence, strategy, and current TIBCO Spotfire Analytics offering.

According to Forrester, “With tight integration of its interactive BI visualization into its S+ technology (acquired from Insightful in 2008), TIBCO positions its now Spotfire-branded PA/DM tools as suited both to traditional data mining specialists and to the legions of non-technical business analysts.  TIBCO provides a PA/DM solution portfolio that supports in-memory and out-of-memory, open source language, and visualization for analytic applications, in-CEP, in-BPM, in-SOA, and other inline deployment scenarios.

TIBCO Spotfire is focusing its PA/DM solutions on helping customers discover new and actionable insights in information at rest or in motion, while proactively detecting and responding to events.”

Spotfire puts the power of predictive analytics into the hands of any business user, with data visualizations they can understand, and a level of interactivity unmatched by traditional business intelligence (BI).  By continuing to advance the industry’s most flexible platform for deploying statistically enhanced and predictive analytic applications to a wide range of professionals across the enterprise, Spotfire enables statisticians and business analysts to prototype, test, and deploy analytics much faster than with alternative statistical modeling environments.

As this relationship between BI and the greater enterprise software infrastructure continues to become more critical, Senior Analyst James Kobielus of Forrester Research recently wrote a blog post titled “The New Decade of Advanced Analytics: Roll Over Rocket Scientists!,” which describes “CEP and PA/DM – the deep present and future, respectively – as key to the evolution of BI … the vendor that has integrated BI, CEP, and PA/DM most effectively for the mass market is TIBCO Spotfire …”

According to Kobielus, “[TIBCO Spotfire] offers user-friendly, powerful, interactive visualization in its BI offering, which integrates out of the box with the PA/DM technology that it acquired from Insightful and the CEP middleware in its parent’s established portfolio.  Its solutions enable customers to discover new and actionable insights in information at rest or in motion, while proactively detecting and responding to events.”

“When analytics are put in the hands of business professionals, it drives competitive advantage and greater predictability for the business,” said Lars Bauerle, vice president, product strategy at TIBCO Spotfire.  “The addition of robust data mining, computational analytics, and predictive analytics to TIBCO Spotfire radically transforms the way business professionals interact with data – whether data at rest or data in motion – allowing them to makes decisions that impact business operations on a moment-to-moment basis.”
