Welcome Subscribers!

Welcome to the Bill Inmon Newsletter.

Today is a great day at the Business Intelligence Network! With this newsletter, we are pleased to announce the addition of two new Expert Channels. Lowell Fryman is our new Metadata Expert, and his first article is included in this newsletter. Dan Power is our new Decision Support Expert, and he has also provided an article in this issue to mark the launch of his channel. I am sure that most of you are familiar with Lowell and Dan. They have been solid contributors to this industry for many years, and we are very pleased that they have chosen the Business Intelligence Network as their avenue for disseminating their valuable advice. Please join me in welcoming them! Both channels also include blogs that you'll want to check regularly. You can post a comment on either blog to let Dan and Lowell know what problems you're facing.

Also in this issue, you'll find my article that compares the operational system developer with the decision support system developer. And, Pete Loshin provides a very interesting article on open source software for business intelligence – be sure to read it for some valuable insight into why open source software may be a viable option for your organization.

On behalf of the Business Intelligence Network, I encourage you to use the Bill Inmon Newsletter as your regular source of information about as your premier source for information pertaining to business intelligence, performance management, data warehousing and information quality.

To your continued success,

Bill Inmon
