Welcome Subscribers!

Initially used to partition large mainframe hardware, virtualization almost disappeared from the technology scene. However, it's back! Today, virtualization plays a key role in IT infrastructure management. The first article in this week's newsletter, A Virtualization Primer: Paradigm Shifting in the Data Center with Open Standard Virtualization by Pete Loshin, reviews the history of virtualization, describes new developments and explains why there is renewed interest in virtualization.

In the second article, Migrating to the Next Generation of Data Warehousing, I discuss the process of migrating from a first- to second-generation data warehouse and explain why it is not a difficult transition.

I encourage you to use the Business Intelligence Network as your premier source for information pertaining to business intelligence, performance management, data warehousing and information quality.
