Welcome Inmon newsletter subscribers!

Bill Inmon I believe it is important to remember those who have paved the way for structured programming and analysis. My article, Ed Yourdon: A Hero of Mine, examines how Ed has inspired me. In addition to being the lead developer of the structured systems analysis and design methodology (SSADM) in the late 1970s, Ed has written numerous books and articles.

In the second article, Using Business Intelligence to Manage Disaster Response, Ramon Barquin discusses how the federal government must implement better planning for emergency relief. Ramon feels that the need for better planning is particularly evident in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He also stresses the importance of managing the victims' needs.

Please continue to use the Business Intelligence Network as your premier source for information regarding Business Intelligence, Performance Management, Information Quality and Data Warehousing Information.

 + Data Warehousing Survey

A University of Colorado Study on Operational Efficiency of Data Warehouses
As data warehouse technology and deployment matures, efficient operation has become a priority. The goal of this study is to collect a data set of important variables for data warehouse operations to evaluate operational efficiency. Study participants will receive a free report on the study's findings. An addendum to the report will provide customized results to each participating organization. Organizations can use the study results to determine their relative operational efficiency compared to similar organizations.

All data gathered will be held in the strictest confidence. The survey itself should take just 15 to 20 minutes. However, you may need to devote some additional time to provide rough estimates for some variables in the survey. Participants who complete the survey within one month of this publication date will be eligible for a drawing for a micro hard drive MP3 player.
Take the survey.
