Welcome Inmon newsletter subscribers!

Bill Inmon In the first article, Ramon Barquin provides a riveting case study, Business Intelligence in the Public Sector, which demonstrates the relevance of business intelligence in dealing with the spread of avian flu to humans. This process is interesting because it mimics what might happen in real life situations.

In my article, Leading the Marketplace with Data Warehousing, I highlight the tensions between the vendor-led and consumer marketplace. A vendor-led marketplace is one where the vendor creates a product and then educates the marketplace about the product's viability and usability. A consumer-led marketplace is one where the consumer demand for a product grows and vendors respond.

I encourage you to use the Business Intelligence Network as your premier source for information pertaining to Business Intelligence, Performance Management, Data Warehousing and Information Quality.

A University of Colorado Study on Operational Efficiency of Data Warehouses
As data warehouse technology and deployment matures, efficient operation becomes a priority. This study aims to collect a data set of important variables for data warehouse operations to evaluate operational efficiency. Study participants will receive a free report on the study's findings. An addendum to the report will provide customized results to each participating organization. Organizations can use the study results to determine their relative operational efficiency compared to similar organizations.

All data gathered will be held in the strictest confidence. The survey itself should take just 15 to 20 minutes. However, you may need to devote some additional time to provide rough estimates for some variables in the survey. Participants who complete the survey within one month of this publication date will be eligible for a drawing of a micro hard drive MP3 player.
Take the survey.
