This week I've authored an
article entitled The Role of Open
Source in Enterprise Portals. My objective for this article
was to take a quick look at open-source portal products and review the
pros and cons of using them. When evaluating open-source solutions
there are four main areas to consider: features provided, development
effort, product cost and support. Open source has continued to make
major inroads in many areas and the enterprise portal market is no
exception.

A few months back we discussed
some interesting aspects of how customer data integration (CDI) was
reliant on a process called "record linkage" for party
identification and reconciliation. In the meantime, after some
conversations with some of our clients, it occurred to me that there is
an opportunity for an even more basic introduction to the ways that
customers, and other master reference data sets, are consolidated. In
my article, Data Integration: Record
Linkage and Master Data, we will look at a basic precept for
multi-data set integration, some of its associated issues, as well as
some ideas for optimizing the process.
