Colin White

Happy spring! Yes, despite what you may have learned in school, today is the first day of spring (in North America). Spring begins when the sun crosses directly over the equator – and that will happen at 1:26 p.m. ET. (For those of you in the southern hemisphere – autumn begins!) Did you know that during the last 100 years, the vernal equinox occurred on March 21 only 36 times? Until 2102, the first day of spring in North America will be no later than March 20.

David Loshin

The point of that rather extended introduction is to remind you that it is always necessary to be receptive to new ideas. What you learned many years ago may no longer be accurate. As spring refreshes our land, be sure to refresh your mind too! Begin with the articles in today's newsletter.

In the first article, The Role of Standards in Enterprise Content Management, Colin White discusses the introduction of industry standards for enterprise content management and explains why they are necessary.

In the second article, The Nature of Connectivity, David Loshin discusses the various aspects of social network analysis and how it can be used in the information management community.

Please continue to use the Business Intelligence Network as your premier source for information regarding business intelligence, performance management, information quality and data warehousing.
