Very informative article. Thanks. I added a couple of additional benefits that the SaaS model is delivering to business intelligence on our Keep it Simple blog:
Simplicity
Broader Adoption
Return *Before* Investment
My hope is that SaaS and Cloud Computing ultimately get people talking about how to visualize, analyze, and understand data and what actions should be taken based on the right interpretation of the results.

You can see a bigger interest in SAAS BI this days but...
Many of the companies that are looking for BI today does a lot of research before buying a software this research leads to the fact that they already know what they need so they will not use the SAAS model.
Take a look at www.sisense.com its a BI company that gives its customers all options.
In my opinion they understood that SAAS is OK only for a few companies even with all its benefits.

We're seeing a third converging trend, text analytics. The actionable insight that resides in text or un-structured data can be quickly harvested (as well as structured data) with text analytics technology. Fraud detection, risk management and Voice of the Market/Customer/Employees are applications where we are seeing marketplace demand even in a challenging economy.
