Welcome to the BI in the Trenches - the Steve Dine Expert Channel for BeyeNETWORK.com. In this channel, we will be covering all aspects of business intelligence (BI) - not from text books, conference material or vendor white papers, but from where theory meets reality…the trenches. In the trenches, "best practices" aren't always best and, yes, we often need to stray from well known architectures and frameworks. In the trenches, there isn't one best database, ETL tool or BI suite in the market. In the trenches, master data management (MDM) is more of a political challenge than a technical one. In the trenches, on the ground experience reigns supreme, and there is only one measure of success: delivering value to the customer via flexible, maintainable and scalable BI solutions. We will be addressing all areas of BI, from requirements analysis through delivery including the people, processes, architectures and technologies. - Biography Steve Dine is President and founder of Datasource Consulting, LLC. He has more than 12 years of hands-on experience delivering and managing successful, highly scalable and maintainable data integration and business intelligence (BI) solutions. Steve is a faculty member at The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI) and a judge for the Annual TDWI Best Practices Awards. He is the former director of global data warehousing for a major durable medical equipment manufacturer and former BI practice director for an established Denver based consulting company. Steve earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont and a MBA from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
