Welcome to the BeyeNETWORK Energy Channel, dedicated to application of business intelligence (BI) across the whole spectrum of the energy industry…from E&P through to retail. Oil and gas companies are increasing their usage of BI to help them find and extract fuel in increasingly challenging environments. Extraction costs are escalating, forcing  a greater emphasis on operational efficiency and hence the need for more sophisticated data integration and analytics.

The utility industry is also facing huge change with the introduction of smart meters and smart grid. This, combined with regulatory and environmental demands, means that harnessing and exploiting huge volumes of consumption data is now a key business priority.

Although a relative novice in the energy sector, I have lived and breathed BI and data warehousing before the terms were coined and look forward to bringing some of my knowledge, experience and, dare I saw prejudices, from other industries to bear. The changing dynamics in energy can leverage much from mainstream BI but I also feel can make a significant contribution as the whole BI landscape evolves.
