Its always great when a technology gadget is actually as useful as it is cool. The Loc8tor Plus is just that. It helps find important possessions and can even stop them from getting lost in the first place. From finding keys, handbags or mobile phones to ensuring the safety of your children, pets and personal possessions is it truly a useful gadget.

In Locate mode audio beeps and the on-screen directional display guide users quickly and easily to mislaid tagged items. In Alert mode an invisible safety zone can be set up around the Loc8tor (plus) alerting you with audio-visual and vibration alarms should tagged items move out of the set boundary.

it costs less than $200.00 and I know that the locate feature for keys is a great solution for me.

Friday Fun - Gadgets

Is this a great gadget or is it an indication that I have a problem?

multipleRecharger.jpg
Multiple Unit Charging System

I looked at this and instantly thought....I NEED that! After the initial excitement passed it did cross my mind that NEEDING this could be an indication of a problem.

But in the end it was ok....I realized I would NEED one that held at least 6 components not just 3.....So this gadget is not what I NEED and I feel much better now.

If you NEED this you can buy it at Hammacher Schlemmer

Have a great weekend!!

Friday Fun - Gadget

The MP3 player wars are in full swing for the upcoming holiday season. While Apple iPods continue to own 80% market share in the space Microsoft is ready to launch it's first frontal attack with the new Zune player. Expected to be available on November 14th it will be priced at 249.99 and offer a color display, 30 gigs of storage and one feature that the iPod has yet to add.....wireless. Many in the press have been calling the Zune an iPod killer but I think that may be a bit over stated. While the features of the Zune are at or near the same level of an iPod and wireless is a nice feature I don't see the millions of users who have purchased iPods tossing them out and running to Best Buy to get a Zune. Additionally, iTunes is miles ahead of where the Zune community will be with respect to access to media.

My take on the issue is if you don't have an iPod already take a look at the Zune it might be right for you. If you have an iPod already the Zune isn't compelling enough to make a change.

Geek Story Alert!!!
Imagine if you will......storage so powerful that you could fit 12.8 million gigbytes of information ito a cubic centimeter. I guess that would make my 1 gig thumb drive obsolete. Anyway, I found this article on the Drexel University site and its pretty cool. Check it out.

The Future of the Computer Interface

This video reminds me of the movie minority report, it takes interaction with a computer to a new intuitive level and clearly will have impact on data visualization and perhaps business intelligence down the road. Jeff Han is a research scientist for New York University's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. Here, he demonstrates for the first time publicly his intuitive, "interface-free," touch-driven computer screen, which can be manipulated intuitively with the fingertips, and responds to varying levels of pressure.

I've embedded the video here so please be patient its worth the wait:

This is now offically on my Christmas list

I had the opportunity to test drive a new program this past week. Its RoboForm a very cool and easy to use program that fills in forms and passwords quickly and easily. It also offers a feature that will help you make up highly secure passwords for every site or place you visit online. The nice part about that feature is because the application remembers the password you can use longer and more secure passwordss for all of your online accounts and RoboForm does the hard work for you.

I tested the form filling feature on a couple sites and it's accurate and fast. They offer a free version on the site as well as a pro version. The price is very reasonable, check it out.

I have never been a huge fan of sushi but recently Jim McManus and Steve Dixon over at Sun Microsystems have been trying to convert me and I have to admit they have been a bit successful. I have been eating california rolls for lunch and while in Las Vegas a few weeks ago I had sushi for dinner at Mandalay Bay.

With that said I'm not sure if I'm ready to make sushi part of my computing experience however if your a dedicated sushi connoisseur this USB drive might be for you?

I really like flash drives, I have a 1 Gig unit that I carry on my key chain and recently I got a Pen from DataFlux that has a 256 Meg drive built right into the pen. Its remarkable how fast we forget that back in the old days you had to use a disk that only held 1.3 Meg. The only draw back is I forget how much I have on my drives and sometimes when I want to put something on them I'm surprised to see that they are full.

So, I have found a solve to the problem check out http://www.plusminus.ru/flashbag.html. A Russian site that invented USB Drives that enlarge as you put data on them. The size of the device changes depending on the amount of data it holds. When the device is about to blow up you will see the familiar error message on your screen: "There is not enough free space".

When switched off the flashbag remains pumped up, so you can estimate with the naked eye how much more pics, books and music albums can be transferred into it.

Way Cool!!!!

Here is the 2 best selling models they offer, I really like the Sponge Bob Square Pants model.
