Its a growing trend as more front end BI vendors are seeing the light when it comes to working with the analytic server vendors. Sybase is well positioned to make friends with many of the front end leaders. Utilizing the Sybase IQ analytic server will add horsepower to the dashboards that Microstrategy delivers. The partnership will deliver an integrated package and pricing in an on MicroStrategy products when sold with its Sybase® IQ analytics server.

A couple other upsides to this union are Sybase's ability to bring in MicroStrategy consulting and education services plus offering a one stop shop for clients challenged at both ends of the BI stack.

"Business intelligence and data warehousing solutions are expected to take on an increasing value in the present economic environment," said Dan Vesset, IDC Program Vice President of Business Analytics. "IDC believes the extension of the alliance between Sybase and MicroStrategy will simplify the acquisition, deployment, and use of the combined solution thus helping customers maximize the value of their BI investments."

I think this is a good direction for both companies, they have worked together for 10+ years so this step forward seems to be logical and well timed.
