I don't have a lot of details around this but there is a bunch of noise on various blogs and web sites about the new database announcement coming next week at Oracle OpenWorld. while no one has been able to confirm the rumors it appears that Oracle has several customers testing a Beta version of a data warehouse appliance based on HP servers.
Larry Ellison quote from June conference call:
We are not going to sit on our laurels. We have a major database innovation that we will announce in September of this year. It is going to be a very big and important announcement for us, so we are not standing still in database.
If they roll out their own appliance it will prove me wrong as I really thought that they would purchase appliance technology this year to keep up with Teradata, Netezza and most recently Microsoft who just closed their deal with appliance vendor Datallegro. I am sure we will get all the details next week but for the time being here are a few interesting links.
