Overall I think its fantastic but certain things about the culture do give you reason to pause. I have yet to understand the appeal of Crocs footwear. While surfing yesterday I stumbled on this image and I think it says it all.
May 23, 2008Friday FunnyMay 21, 2008Tick tick tick.....updateMay 19, 2008Books - The Wisdom of CrowdsOk, I promise this will be the last Web 2.0 or Internet related title for a while. I do read business intelligence related books as well. But for those of you who know me I'm sure your not surprised that I started the Monday Book List posts with these type of titles. The Wisdom of Crowds is another great title that should make your list if your interested in learning more about internet culture. It will help you understand the importance of sites like YouTube or LinkedIn. The book provides great balance between real world examples, science and business. If you have wondered why sites like Digg and del.icio.us have become so popular this book will provide what you need and perhaps more importantly give you insight into how you can incorporate the Wisdom of Crowds into your workplace and culture. May 12, 2008Books - Naked Conversations: How Blogs are Changing the Way Businesses Talk with CustomersThis booked is a tamed down version of Clue Train Manifesto that I talked about last week. However quieter in its approach it still hits the mark when helping you understand Blogs as a powerful tool. Its a good read for any company thinking about blogging as well as an aspiring blog author.
The guys cover topics like Bloggings's Six Pillars: The authors are great practitioners at the art of blogging Robert Scoble is a relentless self promoter and widely followed net personality (he is now far too busy to even sign copies of his book I know first hand as he's tuned me down twice) and while I have never met Shel Israel I think highly of him as he used the power of his blog Global Neighbourhoods to assist in the search for my friend David Koch when he was lost on a mountain in Vancouver in 2005. Naked Conversations is a good addition to your reading and learning about the culture and power of internet enabled media. Tags: Naked Conversations, Robert Scoble, Shel Israel May 9, 2008Friday FunnyI have several vices in life. Cigars and wine are two of them. My wife and I throw an annual holiday wine party that's attended by over 60 people. And all I can say is I hope the cartoon below is not a good descriptor of me.
May 5, 2008Books - The Cluetrain Manifesto: The End of Business as UsualThis is a must read for anyone who is still trying to figure out what the heck Web 2.0 is. Christopher Locke, Rick Levine, Doc Searls, David Weinberger all take sections of the book and rant and rave about the way the world is changing, how business as usual is evolving and how it will not wait for you. As I mentioned above this is a must read for any executive thats in charge of marketing or branding at small or large companies. Sift through the ranks and open you eyes to the interesting changes that citizen journalism and other forms of empowered media are effecting the way the world interacts with companies. I won't lie, I did skip a few paragraphs here and there, many of the points that are made can be absorbed quicker than the authors thought. I do recommend the book. More information on the Clue Train Manifesto May 2, 2008Friday FunnyMay 1, 2008Is this thing on?On Monday the servers that host BeyeNETWORK were hit by a denial of service attack. It caused short term outages to our services but in the end the entire system was back at 100% in less than 90 minutes. The interesting thing for me was that I was in Dallas and the symptoms seemed worse there than my team in Boulder was experiencing. I couldn't see the site but the team could, plus my friend Stephen Pace twittered me to say he couldn't see the sites. So I had to wonder if it was down for everyone or just me? I mentioned it to a friend at the event I was speaking at and they suggested the following site: I guess its true the coolest things are often the simplest. I now have it bookmarked. |
