I attended the IBM On Demand event earlier this month at the Mandalay Bay Resort, Las Vegas. The turn out was great over 6,500 attendees. I did several interviews that will appear here in the next day or so the first is with Mel Zeledon Senior Vice President of Global Alliances for Cognos. We covered a wide range of topics including the importance of vertical business intelligence solutions, Business intelligence challenges to companies outside the US, solutions and focus on the SMB markets, the Cognos business intelligence appliance, the Applix acquisition and of course the recent consolidation in the BI market.

ParAccel officially launched today and introduced their high speed columnar database for analytic processing. I have covered ParAccel back in August and we a chance to interview the CEO David Ehrlich on a podcast so please take a look..

Two additional pieces from the announcement caught my eye ParAccel already has a reference customer LatiNode, Inc. a US-based provider of advanced telecommunications services and along with newly announced hardware partner Sun they set a new 100 Gigabyte, 300 Gigabyte, and One Terabyte TPC-H Benchmark Records for Performance and Price/Performance.

Its not a common occurrence that a newly announced company comes to market complete with top class partners, reference customers and new performance benchmarks. Here are links to the specifics.

A very interesting solution set created by SAS Alliance partners eTelemetry and Zencos Consulting. I got an opportunity to chat with Ermis Sfakiyanudis President and CEO of eTelemetry, David Septoff CEO and Joe Costanzo CTO of Zencos about social networking for business intelligence. The solution these two firms have brought to market leverages the SAS platform and allows you to see communication bottlenecks, identify your enterprise experts and impact communication to foster company wide analytics and business intelligence.

A dinner conversation gone bad....or good I'm really not sure. All I know is that I was minding my own business and enjoying some pre-dinner conversation with Tom Stanek and Pam Sartell at the Teradata Appreciation Dinner the conversation was about music and concerts that we enjoyed at first we were talking The Stones, The Who, The Doors and the next thing I know Tom and I are trying to remember the words to Heartbeat. It's a Love Beat.

So how exactly did we get there? I'm not sure. (the wine helped) But I will confess that we found the lyrics in our slightly aging brains and belted out the tune.(complete with synchronized swaying) When we were done we looked to Pam for comments and support and she was in tears. I think we scared her?

So there are several points to this post
1. Dinner conversations with friends are fun and can take you just about anywhere
2. I am getting old and so is Tony DeFranco
3. Tom and I need to get out more
4. I am not sure how, but I think it was all Pam's fault.

Anyway for those of you reading this who have no idea what the heck I'm talking about here is a link to a once popular 70's group The DeFranco Family.
