Gnomedex 7 - Cali Lewis and Cool Dad Points

gnomedex.jpg

It doesn't happen often but occasionally I earn "Cool Dad Points" with my 14 year old daughter Amanda generally the easiest route to this accolade is by purchasing her clothes or cool electronics like a cell phone or iPod. More often than not I earn "Bad Dad Points" by my embarrassing parental comments and general uncool adult behavior.

Recently Tamara Dull posted a piece at her blog about my SecondLife (SL) exploits, its a fun read. While I don't think that SL is ready for prime time I do enjoy watching it evolve. Anyway, a while back I attended a meet-up in SL hosted by Cali Lewis the host of Geek Brief an extremely popular video podcaster. Each episode is watched by over 400,000 viewers. In short Cali is pretty famous. During the SL meet-up I (virtually) introduced my daughter to Cali and they chatted for a couple minutes (big cool dad points).

The interesting thing was how my 14 year old perceived the meeting, in her mind she had actually met the real Cali Lewis not just her avatar. It really makes you think about how SL could impact business and community in the future.

So back to "Cool Dad Points"....
The Gnomedex event that I am at allows me to meet and network with the many thought leaders on the Internet and yes occasionally earn "Cool Dad Points".
