Blog: Shawn Rogers« Friday Fun - Napa Valley | Main | Microsoft to work with Linux » Is real-time achieving critical mass?It seems that everyday I hear the phrase real-time, a couple years ago it wasn't even mentioned during the briefings and interviews we do here at the Network. At first I felt it was just another buzzword but now it seems clear its a functionality of business intelligence thats here to stay and it may very well be a required functionality in most BI solutions going forward. GoldenGate Software is ahead of the curve and without a doubt saw that it was coming. I had my first contact with GoldenGate about two years ago and since then have attended their annual user group, talked to board members, executives, customers and partners. Two weeks ago I attended the IBM conference in Anaheim and bumped into Sami Akbay Vice President of Marketing for Goldengate where they announced real-time integration support for the new IBM Information Server a few days later at Oracle World I saw Sami again as Goldengate announced Siebel validation to provide real-time reporting and application migration. Additionally, that week GoldenGate announced a reseller deal with Eclipsys a leader in the health care industry who will offer GoldenGate's Transactional Data Management Solutions. Sami and I sat down for a chat at Oracle World and discussed whats driving real-time. GoldenGate believes that business intelligence is becoming more operational in focus and this type of information is quickly being adopted by more users within the enterprise. The combination of operational based decision making and users in the 100s or 1000s has created a perfect niche for GoldenGate. They provide solutions to both ends of the problem, high availability and real-time delivery. They have become an enabler of real-time for everyone they work with. The other key contributor to their success is that traditionally the operational systems that people want information from were not designed to support the type of analysis these newly impowered users are demanding. With the switch from a few power users doing large strategic analysis to the new model of lots of users doing real-time analysis and making multiple course directions GoldenGate is situated right where the critical mass is taking place.
