Business Intelligence Network now in the UK

The Business Intelligence Network launched a new UK based website today. The site is anchored by respected industry expert Mike Ferguson and contains news, articles, events and other content especially focused on business intelligence in the United Kingdom.

We are always looking for ways to better serve our audience and delivering more highly focused content to our growing readership abroad is a fantastic way to do that.

You can visit the site at http://www.BeyeNETWORK.co.uk

On viewing the page at http://www.BeyeNETWORK.co.uk it attempted to send eight cookies and a pop-up. I certainly will not be visiting again.

Thanks for the note. The cookies are only used to make your experience with the site better. We use them to help drive the correct content to you while you use the site. As I'm sure you know cookies don't identify you or affect you in a negitive way. The pop up is a survey we are running in hopes to learn more from our readers in the UK and to insure we create the best content for our readers. Thanks for the feedback and I hope you'll give the new site a try again inthe future.

Yes, even though I am philosophically opposed to them, I understand that cookies are mostly benign. But one is enough: Place one (1) key and store your database full of tags on your system, not mine. Do not use third party cookies. Eight is more than enough to give the appearance of less than benign conduct.

That said, don't take it personally. I just find it unacceptable that that this has become generally accepted practice.

Pop-ups are another matter: If you will pardon my saying so, for a professional site it is just bad manners. When someone knocks at your door, do not be jumping through windows at them.

Invite visitors to click through to your survey. Yes, you will get less than 100% response, but you get 0% response from those with pop-ups blocked anyway. It is ok to open such links in a separate window, in moderation. It is polite, but not required, to indicate in advance that the link will open a separate window.
