Blog: Shawn Rogers« The Future of Software | Main | Company to watch » Informatica World - Day 2....so farFirst off I can’t believe the weather here in San Francisco. I always wear a jacket at night and often during the day when I’m here. Its been nothing short of fantastic all week. The Informatica World show continues to be fun and educational here are a few recent highlights. Partner / expo floor – Huge partner and vendor support for the show. Many of Informatica’s key partners have significant presence here. I saw friends from Sun, Core Integration, Myers & Holum, Netezza and Composite Software. Market directions – I had a great chat with Karen Steele Vice President of Corporate Marketing part of our conversation center around whether the move to Software as a Service (SaaS) would alter Informatica’s approach to the market. In the past they have been almost exclusively aimed at the fortune 2000. Karen indicated that Informatica will stay on course and continue to focus on the top level companies. The PowerCenter Connect for salesforce product will open more opportunities for Informatica’s partners. We’re going out on the town this evening Informatica is hosting a dinner at McCormick & Kuleto's Seafood Restaurant at Ghirardelli Square so if you want me to bring back chocolate you better email me now. |

Do you think that Microsoft SSIS is too competitive when it comes to ETL for smaller companies? Smaller companies use a smaller range of databases and have less DBA, hardware and network support. SQL Server and SSIS may be more attractive. Seems like a good strategy for Informatica to stay targeted at the large companies and see whether SaaS partners can open up smaller companies for them.
