Data Mining and the NBA

I was reading my copy of Sporting News today, I'm getting ready for fantasy football season an addiction I just can't seem to overcome and I ran across an article about data mining. Yes, I said data mining.

It discusses how companies have created predictive analytics programs based on many dimensions of the game to predict which line up will score better, overall player evaluation and other insights into the game. A company called Virtual Gold has lead the market and serves 5 NBA teams with it's software. I was thinking that it could be a great advantage to a coach or.....a gambler? I'm glad my fantasy football addiction has not gone down that road.
