The title of this blog post is actually a quote by Alan Kay. According to a post on Slashdot It appears that HP has decided to stop inventing and Mr. Kay is looking for work. Slashdot is reporting that HP has disbanded its Advanced Software Research Team more than likely part of Mark Hurds recently announced restructure. I don't know what it says about HP's future but it doesn't look good on the surface.
Here are a few of Mr. Kay's accomplishments
- A founder of Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center
- Kay was Atari's chief scientist for three years
- President of the Viewpoints Research Institute
- instrumental in the development of the windowing GUI and modern object-oriented programming
- His Smalltalk programming language was a predecessor to Sun Microsystems' Java
- Envisioned a laptop computer long before the first ones rolled out
Can you imagine how many companies are going to be calling him today.
