Dan Power

Greetings to all of my friends who work in the area of computerized decision support. This blog is a way for me to share stories from my encounters related to decision support, to comment on industry events, and to comment on other blogger's comments, especially those of my friends on the Business Intelligence Network. I'll try to state my opinions clearly and provide an old professor's perspective on how computers and information technology are changing the world. Decision making has always been my focus, and it will be in this blog as well. Your comments, feedback and questions are welcomed.

I will be attending the NoSQLNow! 2013 conference in San Jose August 20-22. On the first day,Tuesday, I'm planning to attend two tutorials: 1) Introduction to the Hadoop Ecosystem with Vladimir Bacvanski, SciSpike and 2) NoSQL Database Patterns: Architecture and Design Patterns of Non-Relational Databases with Srini Penchikala, InfoQ. The entire tutorial offering seems useful.

The keynote presentation on Wednesday morning by Andrew Mendelsohn, Oracle, is titled "Oracle NoSQL Database".  Prior to lunch, Adrian Cockcroft, Netflix, will present on Managing Scale and Complexity.  The entire schedule is at http://nosql2013.dataversity.net/agenda.cfm?confid=74&scheduleDay=PRINT .

I'll blog about what I learn and do at NoSQLNow! http://nosql2013.dataversity.net/
