Second Life Workshop

On Friday, August 29, I conducted a workshop on the possibilities of using Second Life at Loyola College in Maryland (http://www.loyola.edu). Gloria Phillips-Wren, Chair of the Information Systems and Operations Management Department, invited me to meet with a campus team investigating Loyola's potential involvement in and use of Second Life for distance education, recruiting, marketing, and constituency collaboration. For more than three hours Friday morning, a group of seven on the steering committee asked me hard, probing questions and I shared my experiences with DecisionSupportWorld.com and IowaMetaverse.com. We toured virtual Iowa and all of the participants signed up for avatars and learned to walk and talk. I think the workshop was a successful start to an investigation of strategic use of virtual world technology.

Many thanks to Gloria and to the other attendees, Louise Finn, CIO at Loyola, Karyl Leggio, Dean of the Loyola Sellinger College of Business, Richard Siegler and Tracy McMahon, Loyola Technology Services, Jeannie Pridmore, Loyola faculty of Information Systems, and Suzanne Keilson, Assistant Dean of the Loyola College of Arts and Sciences.

We all have much to learn about virtual world applications. You can check my slide shows at http://iowametaverse.com/. My new presentation is titled "Building Virtual Iowa".

ALSO -- this coming Friday, September 5 at 8 am PDT/SLT, we will again start the Decision Support workshop series at TechTalk in virtual Iowa. I will be leading the discussion on "Modern Decision Support." Please join us.
