Dell Sells Open Source PCs

Check it out: Dell's "naked" PCs w/o OS. As Dell writes on that page, "Are you looking for a desktop on which you can run Linux® or other open-source operating systems? Look no further!"

Now, try to get to that page from Dell's home page, www.dell.com.

I haven't even tried it yet, but I'm going to bet it's not so easy. Find out what I found out, inside.

If anyone can give me a simple three-click solution to reach the first link above from the second, I'll buy you a cola-flavored drink.

I sure couldn't even come close, not even when doing a search on Dell products for "open source" and "n-series", which is how they describe the bare systems.

Not to mention that the first link shows prices for the Dimension n Series E520 starting at $749 (after an "instant" $150 off); elsewhere on the Dell site, what appears to be the same system is showing up starting for as low as $400 or so.

I've got a headache from it, and I've only started trying to figure out what the difference in configuration is that accounts for the price differential.

I'm open to suggestions...
