Microsoft Supports ODF, Finally

Matt Mondok at Arstechnica reported yesterday that Microsoft is backing ODF, also known as the OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications.

Check out the ODF Add-in for Word 2007 project, where it reports that Microsoft is providing "Funding, Architectural & Technical Guidance and Project co-coordination". The current release is 0.1, so this story is just beginning.

Good times.

Pete, you may want to reconnect w/Nathaniel Borenstein (of First Virtual Holdings fame...you remember the book you wrote on that? ;-), who's now working for IBM and has been involved in the ODF standards committees.
