Sun Microsystems is hosting an Open Source Business Intelligence Summit on June 26, 2008 in Menlo Park, CA. The focus is (in general) more for the software supplier side than IT end-users.

It's a great forum for vendors to meet with open source providers and with Sun execs, as well as to understand how to develop new applications based on Open Source (and how Sun can help you work in this space).

The agenda covers the following topics:
* Open Source as an emerging paradigm
* Culture and community of Open Source and its buyers
* Open Source products and technologies from Sun
* Open Source impact in the Business Intelligence market

I'll be doing the morning keynote, which I hear will be really amazingly great. Here it is in a nutshell, so you don't have to sit through an hour and fifteen minutes of brilliant speech:

The enterprise software market is in the midst of a major structural shift.
Open source is a change in the conduct of the market – it’s not about ideology.
If we understand why this is happening, we can figure out how to respond.
The firms that develop a strategy to deal with the new market realities and open source will be the ones who make money.
The others, not so much.
