Blog: Claudia Imhoff« Grumpy goes shopping... | Main | Chats with BI vendors » The Data Warehouse Institute Winter Conference: Las VegasWere you there? If not, you should have been. Sure seemed like there were a lot of new as well as familiar faces there. Certainly it was not a bad time to catch up on the latest and greatest from the BI front at this year’s TDWI Winter Conference. According to TDWI, there were somewhere around 800 attendees! A banner conference for the dead of winter AND for business intelligence in general! The vendor line up was not shabby either. The major players were all there but so were a number of exciting newbies. See more on the vendors in tomorrow’s blog. The conference offered a combination of the old standards – introductory courses to BI, its methodology and project management, multi-dimensional modeling, and more advanced courses (including my own course on implementing the Corporate Information Factory) – as well as new offerings on meta data management (Jonathan Geiger), data profiling tips and techniques (Lisa Loftis), and data visualization (Stephen Few). There was something for everyone from the experienced BI professional to the brand new team member. I was particularly impressed with the level of sophisticated interaction from attendees in my guru sessions and my course. The questions and contributions from the attendees were thought-provoking and, in many cases, visionary. My thanks to all of you. You make conferences like these so worthwhile. |

Hey Claudia I agree, the show was solid and the sessions were very good as well. I think the venue (Venetian Hotel) was excellent I hope TDWI keeps going there. Love the Blog!

Excellent conference. It was my second, and I doubt it will be my last. I am glad that there is such an active interest in the BI community towards sharing all of the techniques and experiences that we have with one another.

Ditto! As an exhibitor, it was also a great conference. The number of attendees and amount of energy far surpassed our expectations.

When some years ago Informix announced that it was acquiring Ardent Software (Data Stage vendor at that time) Gartner Group said it was a big mistake. Will Oracle, Teradata, Sybase and Microsoft keep giving to Data Stage a native access to their database? That was the reason Gartner pointed to explain his oppinion agains Informix.
It will be interesting to see what Gartner will say now, about IBM acquiring Ascential Software...
