TD-P%20logo.jpgA press release today from Teradata caught my attention. Solid State Disks (SSD) and Teradata Virtual Storage (TVS) are two new additions to their product line. It is significant because TVS allows flexibility in configuration and operating large storage arrays and SSD allows faster and economic access to hot data. The combination could enable super fast analytics for operational BI.

Check out the press release here. I will probe for additional details at the conference.

UPDATE: When Jim Dietz was asked about SSD in the product line, he said that it was only a concept at this time. They are testing SSD now, but it will be several years before product introduction. SSD is best for random I/O instead of sequential. They are also examining its reliability. Finally, SSD consumes one third of the power of magnetic disk.
